Ketorolac tromethamine, a nonnarcotic, prostaglandin synthesis inhibiting analgesic, was compared with Tramadol for relief of pain induced by
operation. This study was aimed at evaluating the relative analgesic efficacy and safety of Ketorolac tromethamine 10mg compared with Tramadol 50mg in the treatment of acute orthopaedic postoperative pain.
The results were as follows:
1. Summed pain intensity differences (SPID) score was 3.01 in Ketorolac group ar_d 2.86 in Tramadol group.
2. Total pain relief (TOTPAR) was 4.13 in Ketorolac group and 2.97 in Tramadol group.
3. Overall opinion on the study medication as an analgesic agents, for the patients, pain relief score was 2.0 in Ketorolac group and 1.74 in ramadol group, and for the investgators, 2.2 in Ketorolac group and 2.0 in Tramadol group.
4. The adverse reaction of Ketorolac and Tramadol was not found except the mild fever.
5. Our study demonstrates that Ketorolac tromethamine is a safer and more effective analgesic with little side effects.
